I chose "From Now On" as the title, because each of these experiences have led me to make a promise to myself about how I would handle a situation moving forward. I make a million little promises to myself a day about how I am going to change and improve, and although I don’t always follow through, I feel like each one teaches me something. Sometimes I find myself re-learning the same lessons, however, when I do take my own advice, things change for the better. These songs are a reminder of that.

The first three songs (Dust, Scared of the Dark, and Dissonance) are the different stages you go through, or at least I did, when trying to help someone you care about and not being able to, because they either don’t want it, won’t put in any effort, or would rather blame you or something else.

"Dust" is about the initial desire to help in any way you can. You can open the door and encourage someone to walk through it, but ultimately, it’s their choice. It’s about feeling very conflicted in wanting to step in and understanding the limits of what you can control.

"Scared of the Dark” is when you start to get frustrated that they won’t help themselves. When you’ve invested so much emotionally it’s difficult not to question yourself or wonder whether you could have done more.

"Dissonance" is about finally accepting that no matter what you do, if they don’t want to help themselves, it’s pointless. It’s the realization that caring for someone doesn’t mean you can create change on their behalf. It’s really hard to pull yourself away from that but sometimes it is necessary for both people.

"Safety Pins" is about reflecting on my past mistakes and missed opportunities, and how they have shaped me. I often think about what could’ve been, and wonder what might’ve happened if I had stayed with something longer. Even those moments that I once viewed as mistakes taught me something about persistence, timing, and trusting myself.

"Closure" is about the difficulty of letting go  of a relationship that no longer works, simply because it once held so much meaning. Sometimes we are attached to the idea of something rather than the reality. I have never found change easy, especially when it involves someone I love. This song is about accepting that letting go can be an act of growth rather than a failure.
